June 14: SIO Ernakulam district president K.S. Nisar stated that the prohibition of merit seat for BTech lateral entry candidates is a serious fraud. The student studying in Polytechnic colleges are amongst the common people. For them, the lone opportunity to get higher education is via lateral entry entrance exams. Even after gaining higher ranks by writing these paid exams, they have to give full fees. Because, even in merit seats seats the University is charging high fees. University should try to stop this type of dealings. Otherwise, he said, SIO will go forward with strikes like blocking the of entrance exams.
The district president was addressing the gathering after inaugurating the SIO march towards the counseling center demanding the granting of merit seats for BTech lateral entry students. SIO MG University Assistant Convener A. Anas, SIO CUSAT unit president Shefrin and Sector Committee member Sabith were the others who addressed the march.
The march which started from the administrative block is blocked by police infront of counseling center. Some SIO members have small bruises in the struggle. The march was leaded by District leaders as well as Assistant Secretary Yasir and Sector Committee member Wafas.
